Joshua aims to secure legacy

Anthony Joshua believes the heavyweight division’s competitiveness should not be written off as he prepares to continue writing his legacy, Metro reports. The IBF, WBA and IBO champion defends his perfect 19-0 knockout record against Kubrat Pulev on October 28 with many expecting the Brit to run through the Bulgarian. Joshua’s team have their eye on bigger fights, but the Pulev clash has already proved it’s mettle with Cardiff’s Principality Stadium almost completely sold out for the contest. The 27-year-old is still at the beginning of his career despite being the owner of two major belts, but already, it looks like he could reign for a while.  The heavyweight division seems to lack serious competitiveness, but Joshua is not concerned. “If I fight Daniel Dubois tomorrow it will be a big fight, if I fight Joe Joyce tomorrow it will be a big fight,”  Joshua said. ‘That’s the way the division is rocking at the moment, I don’t need to put all my eggs in on

Danbaba added, “Honestly, if I were President (Muhammadu) Buhari, he wouldn’t have the luxury of time he had in generating tension, caused untimely death of some before I descend on him. “Where is the coward who was threatening that anyone, who comes to arrest him, will not leave Igbo land alive?” He advised Buhari to deal decisively with anyone or group who would want to plunge the nation into another ci

China's Pollution Curbs to Slow Growth, Lift Prices, SocGen Says

China’s drive to cut pollution could reduce economic growth by 0.25 percentage point in the next six months while boosting factory inflation, according to Societe Generale SA. Production cuts to curb emissions and tougher nationwide environmental inspections will also support the profits of large industrial companies as producer prices rise, said Yao Wei, chief China economist at SocGen in Paris. She said the campaign will give a "notable supply shock" to the economy. "The Chinese government has turned very serious about fighting pollution," Yao wrote in a note. It will be "more than a transitory objective for the current leadership. Modestly slower growth will be a necessary sacrifice for maintaining social stability over the medium term." Authorities have intensified their anti-pollution drive before a twice-a-decade Commu

World View launches ‘Stratollite’ balloon from Spaceport Tucson for the first time

World View Enterprises today executed its first balloon liftoff from Spaceport Tucson, the Arizona facility that it expects will be the home base for satellite-like “Stratollite” missions to the stratosphere — and, eventually, tourist flights as well. “Spaceport Tucson, the first-ever purpose-built stratospheric launch facility in the world, is now open for business,” World View co-founder and CEO Jane Poynter said in a news release. World View operates the facility on behalf of Arizona’s Pima County, which built the headquarters and production building as well as a 700-foot-wide circular balloon launch pad under the terms of a $15 million deal struck in 2016 . That deal has been the subject of legal wrangling for more than a year. Poynter said the Federal Aviation Administration recently issued a Certificate of Authorization to World View for balloon launches, opening the way for today’s inaugural test. The test’s primary objective was to rehearse mission

NigeriaAt57: Five key things Buhari said in his independence speech

President Muhammadu Buhari traditionally addressed the nation in a nationwide broadcast to celebrate Nigeria’s 57 independence anniversary and said he would not allow Nigeria to be dismembered by agitations for restructuring.   I CANNOT ALLOW NIGERIA TO BE DISMEMBERED He said “Recent calls on re-structuring, quite proper in a legitimate debate, has let in highly irresponsible groups to call for dismemberment of the country. We cannot and we will not allow such advocacy”. According to him, those who are routing for restructuring through violence were not in 1967 during the Nigerian civil war and have no idea of the sad tale of its outcome. “As a young Army Officer, I took part from the beginning to the end in our tragic civil war costing about 2m lives, resulting in fearful destruction and untold suffering. Those who are agitating for a re-run were not born by 1967 and have no idea of the horrendous consequences of the civil conflict which we went through” Buhari s

Bayern Munich ‘no longer the strongest team in Germany’ – Sagnol

Bayern Munich interim coach Willy Sagnol said the Bavarians are no longer Germany’s strongest team after giving away a two-goal lead at Hertha Berlin on Sunday. After seven matchdays, Borussia Dortmund lead the league by five points, while Bayern, who are without keeper Manuel Neuer until the New Year, have already conceded seven goals. Coming out of a turbulent week which saw Bayern first draw 2-2 with Wolfsburg, then suffer a 3-0 defeat at Paris Saint-Germain and finally sack coach Carlo Ancelotti, the Bavarians were in control in their away match at Hertha. Within only nine days, Bayern twice gave away a two-goal lead in the Bundesliga, a first in the club’s history, and Sagnol admitted that, currently, other teams have passed Bayern in terms of quality. “We’ve got a squad with a lot of quality, with a lot of experience,” he said, and referred to his starting formation which included the Bayern veterans Ribery, Arjen Robben and Jerome Boateng as well as World Cup

flashback, 3:27 pm 1-10-2017 Michael Che’s Weekend Update “Cheap Cracker” segment taking to task Donald Trump for the president’s dismal response to the disaster in Puerto Rico is gaining traction as the most talked-about moment of the episode. The Washington Post is calling it “SNL’s Kanye West moment.” Joy Reid said Che was “pretty much winning” the episode, and Joe Walsh, the right-wing radio host and occasional cable news talking head, tweeted that Che’s comment was akin to calling Barack Obama the N-word (only Walsh actually used the N-word; cable news bookers, take note). “This isn’t that complicated, man,” Che said during the Update segment, addressing Trump. “It’s hurricane relief and people need help. You just did this for white people — twice. Do the same thing: Go tell Melania to put on her flood heels, get some bottled water, some food, pack up some extra Atlanta Falcons Super Bowl T-shirts, and write them a check with our money, you cheap cracker!” The

Edo govt steps up enforcement of sanitary laws

The Edo State government says it has stepped up the enforcement of sanitary laws across the state. The Edo State Commissioner for Environment, Reginald Okun, noted on Monday that government would arrest and prosecute anyone who violates the sanitary laws. Speaking shortly after sealing up a building at Lagos Street in Benin City, the state capital, Okun stated that government was concerned about the health of its citizens. He said, “We sealed up the building because it’s a commercial building where wastes from their toilets, kitchen and so on are channeled into the public drains. “Health and safety for this government is paramount; we don’t want a situation where there will be an outbreak of diseases and so on, so we had to shut down the place.” The commissioner cautioned also residents against indiscriminate waste disposal and asked them to seek government’s approval before taking any action. “We are warning people to at least get the proper way of disposing th
